Abstract: The journey to RN prescribing is often a road less travelled therefore requiring determination, a pioneering spirit and post-graduate study. This presentation will outline the study required and the steps to implement this practice. A day in the life of an RN prescriber will be shared to enlighten people on what I do. Feedback from staff and tangata whaiora will be shared on the impact of this role. Learnings will be shared.


Aims for presentation: To outline the pathway to complete RN prescribing in specialty teams - MH&AS and implement it into practice.

    Heidi is Canadian-born and has been living in New Zealand since 2002. My role is a Clinical Nurse Manager in Puawai - Midland Regional Forensic Mental Health Service on Puna Poipoi a forensic rehabilitation unit. I have 26 years of experience working in Mental health Services as a registered nurse and in leadership roles ie: Clinical Nurse Specialist, Associate Charge Nurse Manager and Wintec Lecturer/Tutor. I am in the final stages of completing my Masters in Nursing.
